CAGSAWA RUINS

Posted by Chau On February 13, 2009

I just recently bought my first SLR when I took this picture. I had to pick up my son at Legaspi City, Albay, Philippines when I realized I still have time to kill. So armed with a Canon 400D and a 18-55mm Canon lens, I tried to find out how to get to the Cagsawa Ruins. I never thought I'd be doing an HDR as I pretty much don't know anything about photography back then... but then again the result was pretty much ... pretty but of course not perfect.

DAY 1: Sad for Those Who Were Affected By Typhoon Ketsana

Posted by Chau On September 28, 2009

It was really a sad day for the Philippines, my family included. A flash flood engulfed Metro Manila and left thousands of families homeless or devastated. Our house alone almost went under water. Almost all our belongings were destroyed. Everything that we have worked hard for were left unusable. I'm just glad that every member of my family were safe and that we still have our house.

Day 2: It's Time to Clean Up

Posted by Chau On September 29, 2009

After the flood has subsided, much of Metro Manila was left with stacked cars, ruined homes, thick mud, and garbage, garbage, garbage. It's time to clean up! It will be difficult to clean though as there is still no electricity and water.

open-in-new-tab Getting crazy because you can’t see the “Open in new tab” option when right clicking links in Internet Explorer 7? You are not alone.

Apparently this time Google is the culprit. It seems that Google toolbar is somewhat causing this. I am using Google Toolbar 4.x with IE 7.x. When the Google toolbar is visible, I have no problems but hiding or disabling it causes the “Open in new tab” option to disappear!

Searching on Google reveals that many have encountered the same problem.

I suppose the new version 5 (beta) of the Google toolbar might resolve this but I haven’t tried it out.

Gears for War

img003This is my cozy little nook at our office in Singapore. There is not much posted on the walls of my desk yet as I am relatively new here but I do want to mention that on my first week, I was issued with company standard “gears for war”. A Lenovo T61 Laptop complete with laptop dock and a widescreen desk monitor and of course matching keyboard and mouse, my very own IP Phone (we can call mobile phones as long as it is made locally), and a Blackbery Curve 8320 with an unlimited data plan! Of course the down side of this is that you will sometimes be requested to attend meetings or support sessions during off-office hours but this happens rarely at least according to the pinoy old-timers here. So far, in my one month of stay here, I have attended a long out-office hours meeting only once.
Nice huh?!
It would be really nice if they would also issue us cars! But I guess that would be asking too much hehehe!

Welcome to Singapore!

I know it has already been a month since I got here ^^. But it is never to late to welcome myself so welcome to Singapore!

The first thing that I did when I got here was to get a credit card! And I got my card the day after I applied for one! They really process credit card applications very fast here considering I’m an alien in this country. Why the credit card first? Take a guess! … … … I don’t have enough money because when I resigned, I did not get my last pay. Aside from that I am not going to have any salary for another half of the month since I just recently started! Talk about a poor alien, pity me!

Locals here have a very weird way of speaking in English। Imagine a chinese accent with a whip of british accent ending every sentence with “la”। “You a foreigner la! Why not get credit card, can? Oh you from Philippines is it?” They usually make the last syllable of a word silent like card would sound more like “cahd” and link would sound like “lin”। On my first week, I literally think my nose is going to bleed! Aside from the dreaded anaps!!! I would post my experience with them in another time!

And so my life here will go on। I just hope that it would be a good one :)
