CAGSAWA RUINS

Posted by Chau On February 13, 2009

I just recently bought my first SLR when I took this picture. I had to pick up my son at Legaspi City, Albay, Philippines when I realized I still have time to kill. So armed with a Canon 400D and a 18-55mm Canon lens, I tried to find out how to get to the Cagsawa Ruins. I never thought I'd be doing an HDR as I pretty much don't know anything about photography back then... but then again the result was pretty much ... pretty but of course not perfect.

DAY 1: Sad for Those Who Were Affected By Typhoon Ketsana

Posted by Chau On September 28, 2009

It was really a sad day for the Philippines, my family included. A flash flood engulfed Metro Manila and left thousands of families homeless or devastated. Our house alone almost went under water. Almost all our belongings were destroyed. Everything that we have worked hard for were left unusable. I'm just glad that every member of my family were safe and that we still have our house.

Day 2: It's Time to Clean Up

Posted by Chau On September 29, 2009

After the flood has subsided, much of Metro Manila was left with stacked cars, ruined homes, thick mud, and garbage, garbage, garbage. It's time to clean up! It will be difficult to clean though as there is still no electricity and water.

First Flight

I have missed a lot of things in my son's life primarily because we live in different provinces and now we live in different countries.  But this one definitely I did not miss, his first ride in an airplane.

The flight was on a Cebu Pacific airplane last December 21, 2008 early afternoon, Legaspit to Manila.  He was excited to board the plane.  Even as we waited in the airport, he kept on asking when we will begin boarding the plane but as usual, flights are delayed.

The take-off was smooth.  My son said to me that he feels like he is riding a very nice bus but instead of seeing trees or buildings, he sees clouds and loving it!  We encountered no turbulence except for the landing which was slightly bumpy and made my son a little dizzy.  Luckily, the old lady seated beside us has some "white flower" to soothen my son's dizziness.

Tomorrow, we will be riding the plane again, this time my son will be going back to Legaspi.

My Vacation Through My Eyes

My vacation here in the Philippines did not go smoothly according to what I have planned and budgeted.  For those who haven't noticed I am around, I will be here from December 18 until the 4th of January.

In some sort of bad luck, I became sick just a couple of days after my arrival.  I got eye ulcers, a common eye problem for those who usually wear contact lenses.  My eyes especially the right one, became very red (as in bloody red) and formed a scar just at the lower outline of my retina.  My eyes became very sensitive to light rendering me unable to go out and have my well-deserved vacation. :(

My doctor said that I won't be able to wear contact lenses for a couple of months and strongly advises me to not wear contact lenses at all if I can (and I have even ordered and paid my new contact lenses in advanced, talk about bad luck!).  He further recommends that I get a LASEK surgery (the older method of LASIK surgery) within the year.  I hate wearing eye glasses so I guess I might go for the surgery by mid of next year.

To my relief, my eye healed just enough, for me to be able to go around in time for Christmas.  I'm still a little light sensitive though and my eyes still sting a little from time to time.

I'm Back

It has been a while since I have last posted a blog. And I can see that my "under construction" site has been under construction ever since and now even some of the images in the template are missing! I will continue constructing this again during my long vacation in the Philippines.

In any case I will push my self to post here again from now on.
